About the Ramat Gan Alzheimer Center in Israel

A comprehensive solution for patients at all stages of Alzheimer's disease

The Ramat Gan Alzheimer Center is designed to provide a comprehensive solution for patients at all stages of Alzheimer's or other dementia diseases.

Increased life expectancy in Western society has brought with it a rise in the number of Alzheimer's patients, which increases with age and reaches about 30 percent among 85 year olds.

People suffering from Alzheimer's begin to lose their memory and other cognitive skills long before their disease affects their bodies. Symptoms of disorientation and impaired judgment while the body continues to function normally create situations that endanger the patient and make it difficult for the caregiving relative. In such situations, supervising and caring for the patient at home become unbearable. Attempts to locate a suitable facility for this stage of the disease generally results in a painful compromise – admitting the patient to general long term care wards or other facilities that do not specialize in treating dementia, without the appropriate conditions and support services the patient needs.

The Alzheimer's Medical Center specializes in providing comprehensive care to patients and their families at all stages of Alzheimer's or other dementia diseases. The center has dedicated facilities and living quarters suited to patients at different functional levels.

A Designated Medical Center

The center has been designed so that its various wards, spanning a total built area of 4,000 square meters, will suit the needs characteristic of each stage of the disease. Every detail in the center’s design is an important component of the care given to the residents. The spacious activity hall - built around a garden or adjacent garden terrace - provides a safe and comfortable place for diverse activities, creating stimuli for constant contact with the staff and for spending time with family and visitors. Large windows surround the rooms and activity areas, bringing in the sunlight and colors from the surrounding garden and trees. The spacious rooms, equipped with extra wide openings and en suite bathrooms, are designed to alleviate orientation. Furnishings are cozy and comfortable, the lighting is pleasant, and each room is equipped with a panic button and telephone, television, and computer connections.

The Best Care

The center's goal is to provide residents and their families with the best care possible in a safe and secure environment. We strive to create a relaxed and tolerant atmosphere and are fastidious about preserving human dignity. The therapeutic approach is tailored to each resident individually and implemented by an experienced and knowledgeable staff.

The treatment plans combine all of the components that may benefit the resident, tailored to his/her cognitive and physical condition. The plans include constant medical supervision, social activity - with a focus on music, singing, discussions, and dancing - as well as physical therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, and activities to encourage memory and creativity.

We also host various artists once a month, who come to perform at the center for the enjoyment of the residents and their families. Performances are held at the conference center and they are intended for residents of all the wards. The center also conducts periodic update courses for all staff members, to maintain the high level of knowledge. The courses are given by professors from both inside and outside the center.

Research and Training

In order to examine and improve the effectiveness of the care provided to the center’s residents, we research our clinical work in the various therapeutic fields (nutrition, physical therapy, nursing, music) and work to expand research activity and collaboration with researchers at various universities.

We also ascribe great importance to training professionals to care for a person with dementia and we conduct regular training sessions for the staff at the center, and for professional staff from other institutions involved with geriatrics.

Community Support Services

Since its inception, the center has dedicated a portion of its resources to assist Alzheimer's patients living at home and their caregivers. The experts and professional staff at the center provide the public with a variety of supportive services, including outpatient diagnosis and monitoring, support groups and workshops for family caregivers, a 24-hour hotline for emergencies and counseling, and more.
